THE EFFECTS OF HEMISPATIAL NEGLECT ON SCANNING LIMITS IN PATIENTS WITH STROKE

偏側空間忽略症對腦中風患者掃描限制之影響

Hemispatial neglect occurs in patients suffering from damage to the right brain. In this study, the condition was characterized by the lack of awareness tosee one side, particularly, the left side of a space. However, hemispatial neglect and dementia have some similarities. Moreover, treating hemispatial neglect is challenging due to an insufficient understanding of the disorder. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the scanning limitation of hemispatial neglect patients. In this study, nine right brain stroke patients were admitted for rehabilitation after a stroke as participants. The line bisection test, a test for stroke patients with hemispatial neglect, was performed on the deviation percentage of these hemispatial neglect patients, and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, a test for comparing two related samples, was used to examine the center-point deviations of the bisection line test between lines. The line bisection test showed that all hemispatial neglect patients had worse performance in the second quadrant, specifically, line number 2 (L02, the longest length attached to the left margin, p = 0.0039), which highest percentage deviation compared to L03, L04, L06, L07, L09, L10, L13, L16,and L19. In conclusion, the present study revealed a difference in severity betweenthe upper left quadrant and the lower left quadrant in patients with hemispatial neglect, which is a unique finding compared to previous studies.

右腦損傷患者時常合併偏側的空間忽略,尤其是左邊。然而,半側忽略和失智症候群有些研究上的相似之處。再者,由於對於此類忽略症疾病了解不夠,在治療上具有挑戰的空間。故本研究擬就右側大腦中風合併左側忽略患者對視野檢查之結果進行分析,目的在於檢視這類型患者的忽略模式。本研究以9名右側大腦中風經證實左側忽略者作為研究參與者進行線二等分測驗檢驗。線二等份測驗係測試腦中風患者半側忽略的專用測試並使用Wilcoxon signed-rank相依樣本檢定就患者線二等分測驗的偏離狀況結果進行分析與探討。根據線二等分測驗的結果顯示,所有偏側空間忽視患者在第二象限的表現較差,其中L02(連接左側邊緣的最長線條,p=0.0039)與L03、L04、L06、L07、L09、L10、L13、L16和L19具有較大的差距。本研究發現半側忽略症候群患者在左上象限和左下象限嚴重程度的不同,這現象與先前的研究相比係為一個獨到的發現。
