There are two purposes served in this paper First, the author attempts to extend the issues of Chinese politeness discussed on Gu Yueguo's papers in 1990 and 1992. Secondly, with the papers of Lakoff (1973), Leech (1983), Gu Yueguo (1990, 1992) and Xu Shenghuan (1992), the different rules/maxims of politeness between Chinese and Spanish culture were discussed and contrasted in terms of vocabulary and conversation. The further discussion on the issues of how Lakoff's three rules compared to the Chinese manners was also elaborated in the paper.
