Nontyphoidal Salmonella (NTS) infections typically result in self-limiting gastroenteritis and diarrhea in immunocompetent children; however, invasive NTS (iNTS) can cause extraintestinal complications. Bacteremia is a common manifestation of iNTS, but pulmonary infection is rare. In addition, chylothorax is common in neonatal pleural effusion cases, but rare in children without underlying diseases. Here, we report a case of Salmonella empyema presenting with chylothorax in a previously healthy and immunocompetent child.
