張元濟與吳稚暉往來六札考釋

本文係針對中國國民黨黨史館收藏百年前張元濟致吳稚暉的六件信函，進行考察。這批書信，內容有公務交辦事項，也有私人請託，應寫於1901年間張元濟擔任南洋公學代理總理期間。又依吳稚暉的前後不同身分，張元濟所談的重心亦不同，主要分兩方面：一是寫給代理南洋公學高等小學堂堂長時的吳稚暉，張元濟吩咐管束學生以及通知家屬帶回學生，也代親友詢問入學事宜；轉交澄衷學堂堂長劉樹屏的來信。一是寫給遊學日本時的公派教師吳稚暉，張元濟告知決意請辭總理的想法，並轉知吳氏所關心《科學教育學》的翻譯進展。本文即是研治這批書信的初步成果，並兼及若干問題的辨正釋疑，對學界研究張元濟、吳稚暉以及南洋公學的發展史，有所裨益。

This study conducted investigation and interpretation on the six letters, which Mr. Yuan-Ji Zhang wrote to Mr. Zhi-Hui Wu, now kept at the Chinese Nationalist Party's (Kuomintang, KMT) history center. These letters covered both official as well as private affairs. They were assumably written in 1901 when Mr. Yuan-Ji Zhang served as the acting principal of the Nanyang College. According to different positions that Mr. Zhi-Hui Wu was serving, focuses of Mr. Ji-Yuan Zhang's talks in these letters were also different, mainly consisting of two aspects. First, he wrote to Mr. Zhi-Hui Wu, who was the acting principal of the Nanyang College Affiliated Elementary School; he asked him to restrain students, and to inform their families to bring them back. He also asked about admission to the elementary school on behalf of his relatives and friends. Second, he wrote to Mr. Wu who was a government funded teacher visiting in Japan; he told him how determined he was to resign from the position as acting principal. He also forwarded him the progress of translation of Science Education that Mr. Wu was concerned about. This study revealed primary results of investigation and interpretation of these letters, and clarified some questions. It provided some contributions to the study about Mr. Yuan-Ji Zhang and Mr. Zhi-Hui Wu as well as the developmental history of the Nanyang College.
