This is a 60-year-old female who underwent urgent surgical treatment for Stanford type A aortic dissection at our emergency department. She was transferred to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) for postoperative observation. Three days after the surgery, she presented with bilateral cerebral and cerebellar multiple acute infarctions with left frontal lobe hemorrhagic transformation. The patient's family was informed about the potential for a vegetative state. Therefore, consultation with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) department was arranged. Acupuncture was administered at specific acupoints, including Baihui, Shenting, Yintang, and Zusanli. After a treatment period of one and a half months, the patient's Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) progressed from E1VEM4 to E4V1M4, and muscle power improved from grade one to grade three. She was discharged smoothly to a long-term care center. This case study aims to share the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture in addressing the combined complications of post-aortic dissection surgery and ischemic stroke, with the intention of providing valuable reference for fellow practitioners.
