Mitral regurgitation is a very common valvular disease, also one of the primary clinical and aeromedical concerns for mitral valve prolapse. Such organic defects result in hemodynamic instability, and cause cardiac arrhythmias, palpitations and anxiety, et cetera. Mitral valve prolapse diagnosed in aircrew might reduce +Gz tolerance and impact flight performance, and endanger flight safety. As ROC waiver currently include guideline for the aeromedical disposition of mitral valve prolapse, we introduced diagnostic standard and severity grading of mitral valve prolapse, referring from the latest USAF and US navy waiver guide. Suggestions for flight surgeons were proposed and aeromedical disposition for this group of pilots were discussed.
