High speed amusement devices such as the roller coasters are popular in theme parks around the world. Tourists on these high speed rides may be exposed to G force in various directions, among which the longitudinal acceleration force, ±Gz, has the most significant physiological impact on the human body. The magnitude of G forces during roller coaster rides and drop tower are nothing compared to fighter jets. However, the continuous interaction of +Gz (head-to-toe) and -Gz (toe-to-head) poses considerable pressure on the cardiovascular system and central nervous system. From 2005 to 2022, there were 7 fatal accidents in amuse park rides in Taiwan. The cause of death in five of these accidents were suspected to be damaging to these two systems. The swinging and flipping carnival rides such as pirate ship and tea cup also have their risks. It is due to the overstimulation of the vagus nerve, causing disruption of the balance of the autonomic nervous system. Continuous loading of different amusement rides may have an additive effect. To avoid extreme joy turning into sorrow, tourists should assess their physical conditions before going for a ride on high speed amusement devices. Amusement park operators must fulfill social responsibilities by reenforcing risk management, such as consulting aviation medical and emergency medicine professionals, establishing standard operating procedures for emergency medical care of tourists suffering injuries in the amusement parks.
