Every retired aircraft is one part of the history of aviation. A better preservation and use of retired aircrafts would be able for people to keep their collective memory. There is room for improvement in the preservation and use of retired aircrafts in Taiwan. As a result, we take the IDF full-scale wooden mock-up, which is stored and exhibited in the National Science and Technology Museum (NSTM), as an example. We first introduce practices of preservation and use of aircrafts in important aviation museums in the world as a background. We then illustrate the history, preservation, exhibition, and activities of the IDF full-scale wooden mock-up in the NSTM. Some suggestions for preservation and use of retired aircrafts in Taiwan are made.
