In the Post-Cold War era, critics argued that Strategic Studies had been working on false issues and the topic of deterrence was the major blame for its incompetence of testability, particularly the question of nuclear deterrence. Many scholars, under such circumstances, have switched their research from Strategic study to Security study, with the statement of highly impossible of major wars in international society. This has rendered peripheral of both ”deterrence” and ”defense” studies under the name of national security. This study shows that Strategic study is still irreplaceable and cannot be underestimated even in the time of popular anti-military fashion and active international cooperation. In this regard, as a foundation of national defense, deterrence and defense deserve to be further studied.
