This research discusses the following technical ability aspects of the inventors in professional field, such as creation processes, problem-solving processes, information processing processes, and mental operation processes. The interviewees of this study should be at least graduated from the department of mechanical engineering and they are patentees or own at least five inventions of APIPA in the mechanical field. This study involves in-depth interviews in terms of invention motivation, thinking habit, and the invention process of the patents selected by analyzing the selected patent content through inspecting patent index. The information is analyzed and inducted by qualitative approach. The research results show that: (1)creation processes: finding problem, identification conception design, verification by experiments.(2)problem-solving processes: sources of break-through ideas, breaking the bottle-neck of technique (3)information processing processes : message input (discover and identify problems), encoding/saving (thinking for resolution), and index taking (embodying designing conditions, conception designing) (4)mental operation processes: creation processes, problem-solving processes and information processing processes are consolidated to be mental operation processes. In venters conduct concept consolidation through the mental operation process into which the chance and learning are involved. The optimal solution is developed from preliminary concept design through the mental operation process, which is taken to produce innovative products.
