Bibliometric Analysis of Publications on Death Education from the Web of Science Core Collection® published from 2003 to 2020

Taken from publications on death education from the years 2003 to 2020, bibliometric characteristics were analyzed based on datasets located in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), Web of Science. Terms relating to "death education" and "life education" were used as the keywords to search journal articles as of August 20th, 2020. A total of 433 articles, representing 1,356 authors in the 241 journals were scanned. The U.S.A., UK, People’s R China, Australia, South Korea and Italy were six of the top 10 countries in this field. The top 10 most influential journals were identified by the number of publications, Total Local Citation Score (TLCS), and Total Citations / Total Publications (TC/TP). The five leading journals in the death education studies included the Journal of Professional Nursing, Nurse Education Today, Journal of Palliative Medicine, Family Relations, and Death Studies. Core themes from 20 highly-cited articles directly related to family life education, death education, and palliative care were identified. Results indicated that the United States, the UK, China, South Korea, Italy and Australia dominated death education research, originating most of the highly-cited articles, and having the most prolific authors. Furthermore, four emerging core themes from the keyword co-occurrence network were determined, as follows: family life education, palliative care, end-of-life, and death education. Using Pajek, Main-path analysis identified the key-route of death education field journal publications.
