Handheld Computers in K-12 Schools: Uses, Benefits and Concerns

掌上型電腦在歐美中小學的使用現況及其優缺點

摘要


掌上型電腦顧名思義指的是既輕且薄、攜帶方便的個人數位助理、掌上型態小電腦。掌上型電腦使用於學習的功能包含隨身記錄或查詢行事通訊、資料訊息同步互傳、閱讀電子書、以及數位資料庫的應用等等。本文收集相關論文加以歸納分析以探討掌上型電腦在歐美中小學的使用現況及其優缺點。文中記載掌上型電腦如何幫助歐美中小學的行政及教學人員於記事、備忘、與行程設定、等功能及助益。本文並討論歐美中小學生如何受益於掌上型電腦使用於各類學科以及文獻的收集與傳閱。正如任何機器,掌上型電腦絕非萬能。因之,本文更列舉掌上型電腦的可能缺失,例如,體積過度縮小以致影響訊息及界面的設計、以及學童在校互傳不當資訊或影片等。最後,本文以討論如何克服以上缺失以及掌上型電腦的未來使用趨勢及相關研究議題為結論。

Handheld computers or handhelds are portable, mini-computers that can be held in one's hand or pocket and can be easily operated away from a main power source. Handhelds are less expensive than desktops or laptops, are easy to use, have a long battery life and hold the potential to increase teaching, learning, assessment, and collaboration results in Kindergarten through 12th (K-12) grade classrooms. This paper uses an integrative literature review method to gather and synthesize information on the three critical aspects of using handhelds within K-12 schools: uses, benefits and concerns. Discussion and future research pertaining to each of these aspects are also included.
