一個原住民傳統工藝書的民族誌:以人與物能動關係網絡的觀點分析

The Ethnography of Traditional Indigenous Craft Books: Analysis on the Perspective of Art Nexus

摘要


原住民傳統工藝書籍的刻板存在意義,即透過具體的文字與圖片編排來保存記錄原住民工藝師們的經驗和技藝,以及背後的文化涵養;當原住民傳統工藝文化在資本主義影響下而出現逐漸被遺忘的危機時,工藝書成為傳承後世的載體之一,讓傳統工藝文化能夠世代續存。然而,若跳脫書籍內在的文本意義,從外在的社會環境探察,書籍即如一個存在於社會環境中被生產和流通的物件。依此,原住民工藝書所具有的社會文化意涵似乎不僅止於一個文本內容的載體。本研究將從書籍為社會環境中的一個實體物件之角度切入,透過實踐經驗和Alfred Gell藝術能動理論中所建構的人與物關係網絡脈絡來反覆驗證,爬梳原住民傳統工藝書生產過程中所交織出來的人與物能動網絡,以探尋原住民傳統工藝書其他可能的存在意義。故此,本研究藉由溯因的方法,深入分析人與物、和經由物的人與人的能動狀態與關係連結,以及物件指涉性與人類意向之間的因果關係來尋找可能的答案,並進一步釐清漢人編輯的角色定位。本研究認為,一本原住民傳統工藝書,不僅止於一個文本內容的載體,透過溯因,會發現其他可能性,它不但是傳統與現代文化互動的舞台,亦是一個內建社會關係與人類意向融合的載體。

Typically, books of traditional indigenous crafts are to preserve the experience and techniques of indigenous craftsmen, as well as the cultural connotations behind them, through texts and images. As the traditional indigenous craftsmanship is gradually disappearing under the impact of capitalism, the craft books are set to be a medium for sustaining the heritage. However, if we take the book as a physical object and examine it in the social context, we could see in the first place that a book is an object produced and circulated in our society in which different professions, as well as multiple intentions and relations are involved. Therefore, a craft book possessing social and cultural connotations seems more than a medium of texts and images. In this study, I took the craft books as physical objects in the society to repeatedly verify Alfred Gell's theory of Art Nexus and abduct the agency of people and objects based on the said theory, thereby seeking other possible meaning of the existence of traditional indigenous craft books. As such, with the method of abductive reasoning, I had an in-depth analysis of people and objects, and people's agency and relations through the objects, furthermore, the causal sequences between the index of objects and human intentions to seek possible answers, in the meantime, clarify my position as a Han editor in the nexus. In this way, I argue that a traditional indigenous craft book, as viewed physically, is not just a vessel for meaning, but a stage where traditions and contemporary cultures perform and communicate with each other and displays the social relations and the intentions bound within it.
