This article explores how Finland rural, consisting of lake, forest, snow, wild land and cottage, are constructed as the Finnish national landscape. The Finnish semiotics analysis provides the theoretical framework for this article. The historical developments of Finnish rural image as Finnish national landscape are the main context of this article. The representation of rural landscape is, seemingly, objective formation of Finnish national landscape. However, this particular rural image is a result of the Finnish nationalism in the 19th century as well as nationalist movement before the WWII. Nowadays, the Finnish rural image is still a symbolic sign for the Finnish, mainly as a product of rural tourism development.
