Edema was known as "Water Qi" in the ancient time. That means a body is under a damp state. Nowadays we try to distinguish edema between yang-edema and yin-edema for clinical diagnosis and treatment. This case is a 70-year-old male patient with edema caused by heart and kidney function failure. The symptoms both lower extremity edema, accompanied by urination, obvious bladder swelling sensation, palpitations, asthma, rapid heartbeat, chills. He was diagnosed as heart yang deficiency, kidney yang deficiency and internal retention of water. The purpose of treatment is warming heart yang and kidney yang, and inducing diuresis to alleviate edema. He was treated as concentrated herbal extracts mainly composed of Zhen Wu Tang and Chi Sheng Shen Chih Wan to supply his kidney yang. After 4 months outpatient treatment, the symptoms of patients was subsided significantly.
