Oral cancer is a type of malignant tumor that develops in the oral cavity. The majority of oral cancers are derived from the degeneration of squamous cells on the mucous membranes, accounting for over 90% of cases. Tongue cancer and buccal mucosa cancer are the most common types in Taiwan. In this particular case, a 49-year-old man had a history of tongue cancer. He experienced a relapse in 2022 and subsequently underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy. During the course of treatment, the patient developed insomnia, which was further exacerbated by the radiotherapy. As a result, he sought to integrate Western and traditional Chinese medicine approaches. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the side effects of chemotherapy and prolonged illness can deplete the body's Yin fluid. Therefore, the primary focus of treatment is to clear heat-toxins, nourish Yin, and alleviate heat. Following the treatment, the patient experienced significant relief from sore throat symptoms, and his sleep quality also improved.
