英國民歌中的葛利果聖歌元素之探討

Study on the Elements of Gregorian Chant in British Folk Songs

摘要


英國民歌傳承久遠,其來源已知與當時的流行樂曲,包括舞曲、器樂曲是互有關連的,而15世紀後,也有文字記載其與基督宗教樂曲關係十分密切,唯獨與葛利果聖歌的關係,較少有完整的探討與資料的統合,所以研究英國民歌與後者之間的關聯,成為本文研究之主要動機與目的。本文先以1954年「國際民間音樂會議」的民歌定義,作為英國民歌的界定,接著探討20世紀前半,英國民歌三位主要研究學者:夏普、貝雅德和布朗森,在他們所建立的、或主張的英國民歌音樂特質下:五音、六音和調式音階、民歌「曲調變體」和「曲調家族」,來作為研究背景切入。接著利用上述音樂特質,探討英國民歌與葛利果聖歌之間的關係,確定有部分的民歌耶誕歌和葛利果聖歌,除了歌詞、重現句起源相關外,還具有旋律曲調來源的相關性。

British folk songs have a long history, and their sources are known to be related to the contemporary popular music, including dance music and instrumental music. After the 15th century, there are records that they are closely related to Christian music, but less discussions and data integration on the relationships between British folk songs and Gregorian chant. Therefore, it becomes the main motivation and purpose of this study. To begin with, the British folk songs definition is according to the 1954 International Folk Music Conference. The main characteristics of British folk music, such as pentatonic, hexatonic, mode scales, tune variants and tune family, which had been advanced by the three major scholars: Sharp, Bayard and Bronson in the first half of the 20th century, are used as researching background. Finally, the relationship between British folk songs and Gregorian chant was established. The sources of lyrics and refrains of some folk carols had some relevance to Gregorian chant. In addition, the origin of melody/tune of some folk carol also have the relevance to hymn.
