This article deals with the beauty of speculation among the Wei-Jing intellectuals. Intellectuals of the Wei-Jing dynasties intoxicated with pure talks. The topics centered on the ”three speculative works” (the Book of Changes, the Laozi and the Zhuangzi), but also included the Confucian works and the Buddhist thought. Besides this, discussions on the human talents and nature, and the cultivation of the sages also attracted their interests.Pure talks corresponded with the Wei-Jin intellectuals' emphasis on the human individuality, their high-minded style, and their extraordinary taste for the beauty of speculation. This article begins with the affirmation of common reasoning, then delves into the pure speculation. It clarifies the nature of speculation, how it exceeds the practical consideration and reaches its ultimate ontological foundation.
