本文溯源探討「力矩」之中文與英文名詞表徵的演變與概念發展,並探討其對教與學的影響。研究的問題起於探討moment of force(力矩)、momentum(動量)、moment of electric dipole(電偶極矩)以及moment of magnetic dipole(磁偶極矩,簡稱磁矩)等名詞中的「moment」是什麼意思,以及為何把moment翻譯為「矩」。本文經由文本分析,提出與其相關的物理教材內容之表徵現況、潛在問題與教學建議:科學術語是學習一個新概念時首先遇到的表徵,對於無法難以望文生義的名詞,並非告知定義或公式就可以瞭解,物理教師必須察覺學生在此的學習困難,更加花費心思引領學生熟習其概念。
The term "moment" is a common word in daily life, but is often incomprehensible when it is used as a physics term. On the other hand, the term "torque" is an uncommon word that students can scarcely understand from its literal meaning. Thus, this physics terminology is difficult for students to remember. In the Chinese language, the moment of force (torque) is translated as 力矩 (pronunciation[li] [ju]). Similarly, it is difficult for students to comprehend what a rectangle has to do with the moment of force. To teach these concepts, teachers must help students to contend with different representations such as experiments, formulas and calculations, graphs, and conceptual explanations at the same time. This study provides a new approach to exploring the etymology of physics terminology and is thus hoped to inspire teaching and learning in physics.
