摘要

英國女作家瑪麗雪萊的作品之一《科學怪人》自出版之後，不僅流傳於後，現今更改編成電影，為人津津樂道。學術界也從文學賞析或進一步從作者生平的角度剖析成書背景，以期更加瞭解瑪麗雪萊與筆下人物。《科學怪人》原文書名為「現代的普羅米修斯」，使後人回溯至希臘神話中普羅米修斯受宙斯懲罰的故事，將兩者加以比對。本文試從十九世紀英國浪漫運動之視角，重新觀察此部小說，並試圖瞭解《科學怪人》中瑪麗雪萊對科學的看法，進一步得知當時代所反應的科學印象。

Mary Shelley is a famous writer in nineteenth-century Britain. ”Frankenstein” is her most popular work. Scholars have focused on the political and social context between 1800 and 1850, in order to understand more about the life of Mary and her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley. Some have paid attention to the connection between ”Frankenstein” and ”Prometheus”. This article not only concentrates on the relation between the text of Frankenstein and the Romantic movement, but also Mary Shelley's view on nineteenth-century science.
