This paper discusses the unusual interactions between Yang, Jiang with servants by comparing her essay with Chi-Chun who also portrayed servants in her works. Instead of the typical dominance of a master over domestic servants, their relationship is more mutual and interactive. Though their conversation seems lukewarm and usually lacks spiritual and aesthetic inspiration, it is instead genius communication about ordinary every day and life experience. Many characters in Yang, Jiang's essay struggle with life but reflect extrovert personalities--usually willing to talk about the difficulties of life. Yang, Jiang not only depicts the endeavor but also the strife among them. Her work exhibits multidimensional features of ordinary people by vividly depicting the poverty, viciousness, rudeness, and hardship. In contrast to Chi-Chun's work that usually describes the kind hearts of human being, these unpleasant narratives about life reveal the uniqueness of Yang Jiang's prose.
