Ci-hua is the main formats of Chinese traditional Ci criticism which is characterized by an array of subject matter, unrestricted structure in past 900 years. In the Republic of China, Ci experts proposed new criteria for Ci-hua criticism by reviewing traditional Ci-hua, which made Ci criticism more systematic and theoretical. Although the presentation of some Ci-hau are traditional, their structures and theories were innovative that implied the modernization of Ci-xue. The aims of this study are to 1) discuss on the Ci criticism of the Republic of China in the aspects of theories, structure, and legacy; and 2) to analyze the relationship between modernization of Ci-xue and the influence of western literacy criticism through the review of different kinds of Ci-hau.
