佛教思想博大精深,寓含許多佛理的奧義,因此需要藉助文學的敘事以及象徵與譬喻,才易於為眾生知曉,佛教經典文學有著豐富的象徵與譬喻傳統。自古至今,由文人和僧人所創作的佛教文學作品更是源遠流長,放眼當代台灣文壇,佛理散文尤為台灣佛教現代文學方面的主力,佛光山的星雲大師則為僧人佛理散文創作的代表人物。星雲大師繼承佛教經典文學的象徵與譬喻傳統,為了宣揚佛教思想和推廣人間佛教,創作許多優美的文章。本文以星雲大師的佛理散文《修剪生命的荒蕪》為例,探討貫穿其中的生活禪思-即如何讓生命回歸自性?如何持守「五戒」以及「修心」並落實於日常生活?這些思想又如何藉由象徵與譬喻進行表述,令眾生在美妙的象徵與譬喻之中接受佛教思想的薰陶,讓佛教思想得以透過文學來完成。
Buddhist thoughts are broad and profound, and they contain many Buddhist philosophies. Therefore, it is necessary to use literary narratives, symbols and metaphors to help general public understand the tradition of using abundant symbols and metaphors in Buddhist classic literature. From the ancient times to the present, numerous Buddhist literary works have been created by literati and monks. In the current literary world in Taiwan, buddhist Philosophical essays are particularly the mainstream in modern Buddhist literature in Taiwan. Hsing Yun of Fo Guang Shan is the representative monk creating buddhist Philosophical essays. Hsing Yun has inherited the tradition of using symbols and metaphors in Buddhist classic literature. He has written many graceful articles in order to advocate Buddhist ideas and promote Buddhism. This study took Hsing Yun's buddhist Philosophical essays, Trimming the rawland of Life, as an example to investigate the Daily-life Zen - How to enable life to return to the nature? How to adhere to the "Five Precepts"? How to put "mind cultivation" into practice in daily life? Moreover, this study also probed into how Buddhist ideas were described using symbols and metaphors, how wonderful symbols and metaphors were used to enable the general public to resonate with the Buddhist ideas, and as how Buddhist ideas were achieved through literature.
