許詩英（世瑛）先生的聲韻學及其在臺灣聲韻學史上的地位
On Professor Xu Shiying's Achievement in Chinese Phonology and His Role in the History of Chinese Phonological Studies in Taiwan
摘要
本文為紀念許師詩英逝世五十週年而作，結合了中華民國聲韻學學術研討會四十週年之回顧，論及如何為臺灣近八十年的聲韻學做分期或斷代研究，並回溯許世瑛教授的生平事略，主要聚焦其學術淵源與自1946年來臺講學的二十六年間，有關聲韻學的教學活動，並就其歷來著述進行多角度的評述，總結出先生為臺灣聲韻學史上的第一代導師，他的教研活動、治學精神及辦學儲才、作育新一代的精英，使他成為一代聲韻學的宗師。全文凡分五節：一、中華民國聲韻學學會四十週年邂逅許世瑛教授逝世五十週年。二、許世瑛先生的學術淵源與主要教學活動管窺。三、許世瑛先生的聲韻學論著述評。四、許世瑛先生與臺灣聲韻學史的分期及其評價。五、結論。古記有云：「善歌者使人繼其聲，善教者使人繼其志。」詩英師可謂臺灣聲學史的啟蒙大師，聲韻學會的創立，正是第二代同第三代學者繼志承先的表現。如何使本會日新月異，耀眼於國際語言學界，是本文最大的期待。

This article is written in memory of Professor Xu Shiying. The 50th anniversary of Professor Xu Shiying's death coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Society of Chinese Phonology (hereafter, SCP). What a coincidence! In the beginning of spring in 2022, Academician Paul Jen-kuei Li, who is also Executive Supervisor of the SCP, found different recorded dates for Professor Xu's death. He ascertained the correct day and wrote an essay to cherish the memory of Professor Xu. Several articles by Professor Xu's excellent students in phonology and grammar such as Chu Chia-ning (竺家寧), Chang Su-chen (張素貞) and Yao Rong-song (姚榮松) have been published in admiration of Professor Xu. The author gave a talk referring to the division of history of Chinese phonology in Taiwan on July 15, 2022 during the 40th anniversary of the SCP. This article focuses on Professor Xu's contribution to cultivating first and second generation phonologists. He was the most important tutor and pathbreaker in our field. The article is separated into five parts: A. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Professor Xu at the 40th anniversary of the SCP. B. Xu Shiying's academic origins and his academic career in teaching. C. A review of Xu's studies on Chinese Phonology. D. Professor Xu's excellent and helpful role to the SCP. E. Conclusion.
