廣視角液晶顯示器製程研究

The Study of Wide View Angle in TFT-LCD

摘要


本研究是以多區域(multi-domain)摩擦配向的方法改善液晶顯示器視角的問題。傳統的TN型液晶顯示器是整個面板以同一方向做水平配向,故沿著水平方向不同的視角會有不同的穿透率,造成視角對比度失真的問題。本研究是將水平方向劃分為多個區域,相鄰的區域以向左及向右交替的水平摩擦配向,使得相鄰區域液晶的預傾角為正負角的交替,當加電壓使液晶分子轉動時,相鄰的區域是以順時針及逆時針的方向轉動,如此就可以補償不同角度穿透率的變化,改善視角失真的問題。我們以晶體旋轉法量測相鄰區域的預傾角,確實是以正負角度的分佈。製成多區域水平配向TN液晶薄膜,我們也實際量測各個角度的穿透率,也比傳統的TN配向平均。本研究所使用方法確實改善視角失真的問題。

In this paper, an easy method to improve view angles of TFT-LCD is applied. In conventional TN process, the rubbing direction between two ITO-glasses is parallel. In this method, the transmittance will vary from different view angle. In this study, a particular rubbing method is applied to improve the transmittance loss. The rubbing method in this study is adopted opposite directions. The pretilt angle between vicinity clusters are opposite, that can compensate the transmittance loss. The pretilt angle between vicinity clusters are opposite by employing the crystal rotation method to measure. Measuring the light intensity in variable view angle, the transmittance in these angles are more uniform than conventional TN-cell.
