The effects of a single session of dynamic warm-up combined with whole-body vibration on the exercise performance of recreational female athletes

Purposes: Dynamic warm-up (DW) and whole-body vibration (WBV) have been suggested to acutely enhance neural activation, muscle strength, and power in the human body. However, there is a lack of research investigating the effects of a single session of DW combined with WBV on the exercise performance of recreational female exercisers. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of a single session of DW combined with WBV on the exercise performance of recreational female exercisers. Methods: Fifteen recreational female exercisers (age: 22.7 ± 1.2 years, height: 161.9 ± 6.3 cm, weight: 54.6 ± 8.1 kg, body mass index: 20.7±2.5 kg / m2) participated in this study. Three experimental conditions, including DW immediately followed by WBV (DW + WBV - 0), DW followed by a 10 - minute rest and WBV (DW + WBV - 10), and DW alone (DW - 0), were administered in a balanced order. The exercise performance measures included counter movement jump (CMJ), drop jump (DJ), and isokinetic muscle strength tests at angular velocities of 60° and 180°. The WBV platform parameters were vertical vibration, with a frequency of 30Hz and amplitude of 1.9mm. The DW protocol included five movements: high knee lift, high knee skip, butt kick, carioca drill, and squats. The data were analyzed using one-way repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), with LSD post-hoc comparisons. The significance level was set at α = .05. Results: The results showed significant improvements in DJ reactive strength index (p = .014), DJ ground contact time (p = .011), isokinetic muscle strength peak torque at 60° (p = .03) and 180° (p = .016), and total work at 60° (p = .008) and 180° (p = .008) in the DW + WBV - 10 condition compared to the DW + WBV - 0 and DW - 0 conditions. However, no significant changes were found in CMJ and DJ jump heights across the three experimental conditions. Conclusions: These findings suggest that the combination of DW and WBV effectively enhances lower limb muscle strength and stretch-shortening cycle capacity in recreational female athletes. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term effects and potential applications of DW combined with WBV in this population.
