Alopecia areata is categorized in the fields of dermatology and psychology. It is termed as the ”ghost-shaving head” or the ”ghost greasy wind” or ”patch-shape alopecia” in the traditional Chinese Medicine. The disease is characterized in singular or multiple circular-shape of alopecia areata of hair rapidly and completely on patient's scalp in a short time, which is often seen in teenagers and postadolescent .In the theory of traditional Chinese Medicine, alopecia areata is considered to be caused by the Yin Vacuity of Hepatic and Renal Viscera. It is commonly held that alopecia areata is a local inflammation reaction of immunity, or clinically correlation with the hormonal change (excessive secretion of androgen), psychological pressure or emotional pressure, which has genetic tendency. Our article would discuss a clinical case of a female patient with long-term massive area of temporal alopecia areata healed by acupuncture.
