The occurrence of pests on Chinese Cymbidium were surveryed and recorded as viral diseases, leaf spot, leaf tip blight, and thrips. Sometimes Phytophthora blight, southern blight, soft rot, scales, and orchid beetle can be found. The viral diseases caused damage to Chinese Cymbidium, its severity was 43.4% and 29.5% in 1992 and 1993, respectively. Leaf tip blight or tipburn incidences was 24.6%, 28.6% on Cymbidium in 1992 and 1993, respectively. Leaf spot mainly caused by Colletotrchum gloeosporoiodesoccurred during the whole year, and made some different symptoms on the different Cymbidium strains. The thrips (Dichromothrips simithi) occureed more abundantly from May to October, and congregated in the flowers during the blooming stage, and in the buds and new leaves during the vegetative stage. The latent period for Cymbidium spp. to express symptom is more than one year. The C. ensislium is more susceptible to viral diseases than othe strains. The bark medium is suitble for planting Cymbidium spp. than other tested media. Anthracnose can be controlled by applying 25% Sportak or 70% Minorix in greenhouse.
