因遺傳、環境、發育和衰老等因素的影響,人類個體之間的身體能力(physical capability)可能有所不同。研究指出,身體功能可以透過鍛煉、飲食和營養補充劑(如益生菌)得到改善。本研究,吾等評估了五種不同的益生菌,包括乳酸片球菌(Pediococcus acidilactici)GKK21、戊糖片球菌(Pediococcus pentosaceus)GKK22、副乾酪乳桿菌(Lactobacillus paracasei)GKK23、乳雙歧桿菌(Bifidobacterium lactis)GKK24以及嗜酸乳桿菌(Lactobacillus acidophilus)GKK25對身體耐力的影響。透過人擇培育(anthropogenic breeding)的方式取得先天性體弱之低有氧運動能力(intrinsic low aerobic exercise capacity, iLAEC)小鼠36隻,平均分為6組:對照組與益生菌5組,每組6隻。每個試驗組的小鼠每天服用相當於60公斤成人攝取0.1克的益生菌粉末,持續4週,而對照組的小鼠則服用等量的無菌水。然後進行負重游泳力竭試驗(weight-bearing swimming exhaustion test),以評估這些小鼠的有氧運動耐力(aerobic exercise tolerance),並分析其運動前後之血乳酸(blood lactate)含量的變化。結果顯示,測試之五種益生菌皆有改善體質弱小鼠之運動表現,其中以乳雙歧桿菌(B. lactis)菌株GKK24對於提升有氧運動耐力的效果最佳,肝臟及肌肉中的肝醣(glycogen)含量都有顯著提升,內臟脂肪組織(epididymal fat pad)亦顯著減少。本研究的結果指出,益生菌B. lactis GKK24可作為改善身體機能、提升運動表現之營養補充劑(保健食品)。
Due to the influence of genetic, environmental, developmental, and aging factors, physical (constitution) may differ among human individuals. Studies have shown that physical functions can be improved by exercise, diet, and nutritional supplements, such as probiotics. In this study, we evaluated the effect of five different probiotics on physical endurance, including Pediococcus acidilactici GKK21, Pediococcus pentosaceus GKK22, Lactobacillus paracasei GKK23, Bifidobacterium lactis GKK24, and Lactobacillus acidophilus GKK25. A total of 36 mice with inherent low aerobic exercise capacity (iLAEC), also referred to as inborn infirm, were obtained through anthropogenic breeding and equally divided into 6 groups. Mice in each test group were given a daily dosage of probiotic powder equivalent to 0.1 g for a 60-kg adult human for 4 weeks, and those in the control group were given sterilized water. Weight-bearing swimming exhaustion test was then performed to evaluate the aerobic exercise tolerance of these mice. The change in their blood lactate levels before and after the test was also determined. Results showed that all 5 probiotics had a beneficial effect on exercise performance. Among them, the effect of Bifidobacterium lactis GKK24 was most profound with a significant increase in glycogen content in both the liver and muscle and reduction in epididymal fat pad. Results of this study suggest that probiotic B. lactis GKK24 can be used as a nutritional supplement to improve physical functions and sport performance.
