This is a pedagogical paper that looks at cross-cultural education and the challenge of teaching course content in widely different contexts; it grew out of a seminar offered at the 2019 Yale-Edinburgh World Christianity Group. A background section looks at the challenges for non-native speakers to teach in Mandarin and offers three ways that lectures are often prepared and presented. A core section examines course content and the challenge of cultural translation. What should be taught and how should it be taught? The body of the essay uses three courses to discuss the difficulties and dilemmas in translating and incarnating materials for Taiwanese students. A final section poses questions for cross-cultural theological education.
