以氧化鐵及碳酸鈣之混合物為觸媒,於溫度500°C及水蒸氣存在下,轉化乙醇為丙酮,結果大致與前人所作相若。觸媒組成之研究,較為詳細,發現觸媒之組成以氧化鐵(Fe_2O_3)與碳酸鈣(CaCO_3)之比在1:1至1:2之間,最為有利。最高轉化率為80.4%。餾餘物中之乙醇極少,不易回收,故產率亦為80%左右。副產氣體量,每耗用原料純乙醇16公克,約為三十公升,其組成為:CO_2,16-21%;H_2,70-75%;O_2,0.2-0.6%;CO,0.8-2.0%;不活性氣,3-6%。此法在適當環境下,或有工業利用之價值。
Acetone can be produced from ethyl alcohol, using iron oxide and calcium carbonate mixture as catalyst, in presence of water vapor at temperature 500°C. Attempt was made to study the effects of catalyst composition upon the conversion and yield. The most favorable result appeared a t the ratio of iron oxide to calcium carbonate from 1:1 to 1:2. The highest conversion was 80.4% and catalyst life was long. Thirty liters of gaseous by-product, containing CO_2 16-21%, H_2 70-75%, O_2 0.2-0.6%, CO 0.8-2.0%, and inert 3-6%, was formed for 16 grams of ethyl alcohol. The possibility of its commercial application is also discussed.
