摘要

氡-222是由鐳-226衰變所產生的放射性惰性氣體，而氡氣衰變後所產生的系列子元素則有致肺癌之虞。然而，氡氣亦可當作研究海洋界層之混合作用及地震預報之追蹤劑。本文將介紹氧氣在空氣中的來源及分佈，以及對人們健康的影響，並以簡單的一維垂直擴散模式來討論利用海洋界層中之氡氣變化估算其擴散速率。另外，爲了地震預報而在許多國家監測了多年之地下水及土壤中的氧氣變化和異常，也在討論之列。

Radon-222 is a radioactive inert gas produced by the decay of Ra-226. It decays to produce a series of radioactive daughters that may cause lung cancers. However, radon can be used as a tracer for the studies of mixing processes in oceanic boundary layers and of earthquake prediction. This article introduces the origin and distribution of radon in the air and its effect to our health, discusses the application of radon variations in oceanic boundary layers to the estimate of diffusion rates based on a simple vertical diffusion model. Also disscussed are the time-series radon variations and anomalies in groundwaters and soils, which have been monitored for earthquake predictions in many countries for many years.
