Discussion on the issue of violence faced by sexual minorities during COVID-19

The outbreak of COVID-19 has had a serious impact on medical, political, social and economic aspects in many countries around the world. The virus is highly contagious and the death rate is increasing. Lockdown and city closure policies leads to temporary work stoppages and permanent unemployment, resulting in a sharp drop in income. Restrictions on going outside and the pressure to survive can make people more emotionally unstable. Long hours at home may also increase the risk of negative interactions with family members. The risk of novel coronavirus pneumonia has not been shown to be biologically or genetically distinct. However, inaccurate information and anxiety about COVID-19 infection and isolation have allowed structural violence to use the outbreak as a tool to reinforce the stigmatization of sexual minorities. In this paper, we use Google Scholar to search for 26 articles in 2020 and 2021 journals by using the keywords of sexual minorities. The issues of violence faced by sexual minorities in the pandemic are explored, including structural violence in society, domestic violence under home rule, and intimate partner violence. Prior to the pandemic, sexual minorities have been facing stigma and discrimination, but now they are being persecuted and hated as scapegoats in the ongoing pandemic. It is hoped that the general public will pay more attention to sexual minorities and break away from stereotypes and misinformation. It is also hoped that sexual minorities should be more concerned with their own needs and remove their guilt rather than changing themselves to fit the gender binary expected by society.
