Exploring the Personality Traits, Well-being and Perceived Risk of Slow Travelers-The case of Solo Female

People recently are adopting a non-traditional approach to travel, emphasizing a slower pace, experiential richness, and a leisurely attitude towards the journey, commonly referred to as "slow travel." The changing status of women in society, marked by the rise of prominent female entrepreneurs and successful individuals, has contributed to a more equal and empowering environment for women. Women are increasingly engaging in solo travel, using it to seek physical and mental rejuvenation, and fulfill their holistic health needs. This behavior serves as both a response to past societal constraints and an expression of female independence and autonomy. This study aims to investigate the impact of solo slow travel on women's well-being, perceived risk, and personality traits. The fundamental premise of this research is that slow and contemplative travel provides individuals, especially women, with opportunities and space for reflection, tranquility, and personal growth during the fast-paced modern life. This study employs an online questionnaire survey distributed through social media platforms collecting total 206 valid responses, data analysis is conducted using SPSS 20.0. Study reveals that women engaging in solo slow travel generally experience higher levels of well-being. This outcome may be attributed to the autonomy, adventure, and novel experiences provided by travel, contributing to increased life satisfaction and overall wellbeing among women. Despite the existence of risks, such as safety concerns, most women effectively manage these risks by pre-planning and implementing precautionary measures, thus mitigating perceived risks. Women with adventurous spirits, autonomy, and an open mindset exhibit a greater inclination toward solo slow travel. Additionally, these women may possess enhanced stress-coping abilities, enabling them to better enjoy the process of solo travel while effectively navigating challenges and difficulties. The findings suggest that government authorities can formulate tailored travel policies by gaining a deeper understanding of the potential benefits associated with slow travel. Such policies would support and encourage this mode of travel while concurrently increasing local residents' awareness, fostering sustainable development, and stimulating economic growth in tourist destinations. Travel operators are encouraged to actively promote travel itineraries related to solo slow travel, emphasizing its core characteristics to enhance consumer awareness of this travel style. Consumers, in turn, are encouraged to assess their suitability for solo slow travel, understand the expected happiness derived from such experiences, and recognize perceptual risks during the travel process, ultimately contributing to more meaningful and enriching travel experiences.
