The comprehension on the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza constitutes an important part of modem German philosophy. However, it was the profound interpretation of Spinoza by Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi that turned Spinozan philosophy from a "dead dog" to a popular subject among German thinkers. On one hand, Jacobi noted that Spinozism is a typical dogmatic rationalism. On the other hand, he pointed out that Spinozism must lead to fatalism and atheism. The criticism of Jacobi advanced the acceptance of Spinozan philosophy by German thinkers. Thus it played a huge role in promoting German idealism.
