The paper discusses the situation of North Formosan Austronesians during the conflict between the Dutch East India Company (VOC) at Kelang and Tong-lêng Kingdom from South Taiwan from 1664 to 1668. The paper first describes the general background of North Taiwan before the return of VOC, especially the relationship between Formosan Austronesians and Hokkien immigrants. Then it discusses how different Austronesian villages or individuals interacted with the aforementioned two external powers in confrontation. Attention is given to the policies introduced by the VOC and Tong-lêng Kingdom to administer the local inhabitants, as well as the responses of the inhabitants toward the two external powers.
