Introduction to Ch'en Shou-yi Papers at The Claremont Colleges Library
摘要
陈受颐教授（1899-1978）是美国波莫纳学院（Pomona College）和克莱蒙特学院联盟亚洲研究项目的创始人之一，也是东西方文化交流研究的先驱。其丰富的个人收藏包括中文善本古籍，以及个人文件、手稿、照片、往来书信等档案资料。陈教授去世后，家人将其个人收藏悉数捐赠给克莱蒙特学院联盟图书馆。陈受颐在其学术研究生涯中与近代中国知识界众多著名人物交往密切，建立了深厚的友谊。克莱蒙特学院联盟图书馆所藏《陈受颐档案》中已经整理出来的有关陈受颐与胡适、蒋梦麟、傅斯年、林语堂、罗常培、张嘉森、张嘉璈等民国时期知识文化界的翘楚之间的通信往来，包括每通信札的识别号、索档号、文件名以及主要内容，可为研究者有效利用这批珍贵史料提供方便和帮助。

Professor Ch'en Shou-yi (1899-1978) was one of the founding faculty members for Asian Studies at Pomona College and The Claremont Colleges Consortium. He was well known for his groundbreaking contributions to the comparative cultural studies of modern China and the historical studies of Sino-Western cultural exchange. His personal library includes Chinese rare books and archival documents such as manuscripts, photos and correspondence, all of which were donated to the Claremont Colleges Library by his family upon his passing away in 1978. Throughout his career, Professor Ch'en maintained life-long friendship and correspondence with several prominent figures in modern Chinese intellectual history, most notably Hu Shih, Chiang Monlin, Fu Sinian, Lin Yutang, Luo Changpei, Chang Chia-sen, and Chang Chia-ao. This paper provides an introduction to each letter in the processed correspondence collection, with item ID, finding aid item number, file name, and brief annotation of each letter's content. The purpose is to aid researchers to better access and utilize this valuable archive of historical documents.
