This research uses historical research with literature analysis to study the operation and role of Taiwan's home-made Hsiung Fen Missiles in asymmetric warfare. On July 1, 2016, the misfiring of the Hsiung Fen III anti-ship missile from the patrol ship Jinjiang of the 131st Fleet of the Taiwan Navy unfortunately caused an accident, but the secrecy of Taiwan's advanced and powerful missile came to light and even attracted the attention of the Chinese Communist Party and the international community. By analyzing the performance of the missile, this article found that the Hsiung Fen missile has superior capability to maintain the security of Taiwan Strait, which makes the anti-ship missile an important part of the asymmetric warfare in Taiwan Strait. Even if mainland China obtains the air control in Taiwan Strait, it still needs to send troops to occupy Taiwan eventually. Therefore, Taiwan can use the Hsiung Fen missiles to attack the invading China's warships to form a deterrent force to its navy and play an important role in the asymmetric war between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
