Elder Master Gentong became a monk in 1945, died in 2015 and spent a long Buddhist career. He had never left this hot land in 60 years since he arrived in Shanxi in 1955. He is a Buddhist leader trained in New China and a senior member of the Buddhist circle in Shanxi. He made great contributions to the re-casting of the five Manjusri statues on Mount Wutai, the Buddhist holy land, and to the casting of the holy image of the three patriarchs of the Pure Land Ancestral Court-Xuanzhongsi Temple, and to the revival of Shanxi Buddhism and the re-emphasis of the Pure Land Ancestral Court.
