The present results indicate the name of Takydromus stejnegeri in Taiwan should be valid. With another close-related Taiwanese species (Takydromus formosanus), T. stejnegeri is distinct from Takydromus septentrionalis from mainland in the smaller body size but with the more longitudinal rows of dorsals. Takydromus stejnegeri is different from T. formonsanus in the lesser femoral pores and lesser longitudinal rows of dorsals extending to tail area.
