The mainstream of 20^(th) century hermeneutics has drowned out many lesser voices that deserve to be heard. This paper rediscovers these voices, redefines modern hermeneutical trends, re-evaluates Schleiermacher's general hermeneutics independent of these trends, and points out the limitations of Gadamer's study of man within his philosophical hermeneutics, as well as other things overlooked by many people in the hermeneutics of Barthian theology and Heidegger's hermeneutics of Destiny.
