In this essay, the author supplies a careful reading on Augustine I s De Doctrina Christiana, and introduces his theory of sign and rules of biblical interpretation, and evaluates his important contribution in this field. It is pointed out the theory of sign is an original work of Augustine, which is not only lay the theoretical foundation for Christian biblical interpretation, but also influence the late western theory of symbol. It may understand that Augustine's theory of sign led the Christian biblical interpretation walk along the road of the knowledge and science. Based on his experiences, Augustine sums up certain rules of biblical interpretation. Viewed in the modern sight, they are not integrity and overall enough, but compare with his elder generation, he made a great progress. Augustine makes his important contribution to the Christian biblical interpretation.
