摘要

1860年《论文与评论》出版，它对英国社会造成的冲击不亚于《物种起源》。该书的七位作者被正统教派斥为“反基督七人帮”。七位作者在书中批判“圣经无谬”的所谓正统观点，并就基督教如何应对科学旳挑战、何为正确的释经原则和方法这两个基本问题展开论述。他们的观点当时被视作离经叛道，后来却被圣经学者视为常识。

The Essays and Reviews (1860) posed a shock to the British society even greater than The Origin of Species. The seven authors of the book were criticized as ＂Septum Contra Christum＂. In the book, they defy the prevailing views of＂ biblical infallibility＂ by explaining their ideas of how to meet the challenges coming from the scientific discovery and what are the right principles and methods for biblical interpretation. Their ideas explained in the book were regarded as non-religious and noxious to the Christian faith at that time, but are widely taken for granted nowadays.
