Bible in Ningbo colloquial version with Latin alphabet appeared in the early 1850s, which is the earliest Chinese phonetic translation in the Wu dialect area, and is lightly later than the Guangzhou colloquial version in Chinese history. The translation, which is the work of Ningbo local British and American missionary, presents itself as an important part of the gospel inculturation. In addition, because of the years, influences, and typical development process, the translation versions of such kind represent the condition of the Bible in Chinese colloquial versions with Latin alphabet at that time, and the missionaries' understanding of Chinese traditional culture. Meanwhile, the translation versions provide precious literary materials to study Ningbo dialects, and are of great importance as the historical evidence.
