The return of overseas students from developing countries can bring rich human capital and social capital to these countries, promote the development of internal high-tech industries and promote national economic growth, so making correct predictions on the scale of overseas talent return can provide scientific basis and policy reference for the formulation of talent strategies for governments at all levels. Based on the statistical data of Chinese students studying abroad from 2000 to 2018, this paper has established four models: the EGM(1,1) , EDGM(1,1) , DGM(1,1) and ODGM(1,1) of the number of students studying abroad and the number of returned students studying abroad. Then selected the most precise models according to accuracy level, and it was predicted that by 2022, the number of Chinese students studying abroad will reach 885,089, and the number of students returning to China will reach 720,714.
