Stroke is the leading cause of death worldwide and consistently ranks among the top five in Taiwan. Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the most serious type of stroke, and its incidence is higher in Taiwan than in Western populations. This guideline aims to provide the latest evidence-based recommendations for the management of patients with ICH. Topics covered include diagnostic assessment of acute ICH, medical and neurointensive treatment for ICH, surgical interventions, post-ICH recovery and rehabilitation. The guideline writing group consisted of vascular neurologists, neurocritical care specialists, neurosurgeons, a neuroradiologist and a rehabilitation medicine physician. The writing group included representatives of the Taiwan Stroke Society, and all recommendations were discussed and approved by members of the consensus panel.
