Totemism is a kind of ancient religious culture, which prevailed over Chinese society in ancient times and each tribe had their own totem belief. Thus, the totem is not only their primogenitor but also the representative of their tribe and its distinguishing characteristics. When judging from the "site and historical origin of the tiger", tribes with tiger totemism migrated from west China to the eastern region in ancient times and these then had cultural interaction with existing tribes located in southeast China. Following the progress of history and expansion of the nation, there are now numerous tiger sites in Taiwan. Despite the fact that there are no local-born tigers in Taiwan, tiger culture was still passed down and bloomed here. Therefore, through the study of tiger totemism versus tiger-god belief, evils-avoidance custom, folk custom, and life ceremonies in Taiwan, people can recognize that there are still valuable ancient religious sites existing in Taiwan and that they deserved to be cherished and preserved.
