Expository texts are a crucial source of knowledge in daily life. Furthermore, expository texts are listed under the learning content of Mandarin education in the 12- year National Basic Education Curriculum Guidelines. Therefore, exploring the connotations and appropriateness of the expository text in the curriculum is necessary. This paper explored the expository text in text representations of the learning content in the aforementioned Guidelines. This research discovered that (a) studying expository texts is a crucial topic in Mandarin education; (b) using expository texts in the curriculum helps both reading and writing; (c) the expository text used in the learning investigated by this study could be extended and be more precise.
