Yao Guangxiao(姚广孝,Dao Yan) was a famous statesman and eminent monk in the early Ming Dynasty. As the military counselor of the battle of Jingnan(靖难),he helped Yan Prince Zhu Di(朱棣) to overthrow the reign of Emperor Jianwen(建文),and establish the reign of Yongle(永乐). He helped Emperor Yongle to govern the country, and tutor the Crown Prince Zhu Gaochi(朱高炽) and his son Zhu Zhanji(朱瞻基). Yao Guangxiao contributed greatly to the "good governance of Yongle". The order of succession set up by the first emperor of Ming had been changed by emperor Yongle whose governing conceptions, administration and real effect were very different from that of emperor Jianwen, thus opened a new era in the history of Ming. Yao Guangxiao was one of the important founders of New Ming Dynasty, and also contributed to its consolidation a lot. As a monk, Yao Guangxiao carried forward Linji Zong(临济宗) and Pure Land. He inherited and developed Chinese Buddhism.
