刘贺经历了王－帝－平民－侯的身份转换。身份地位的变化也导致了其居所空间位置的改换。在两汉执政集团上层同等级的政治人物中，刘贺的行旅人生所涉及地理区域的幅面仅次于汉高祖刘邦及汉武帝刘彻。刘贺的人生轨迹涉及地域之广，无论对于他个人的政治生涯还是对于国家各区域间的文化联络和经济沟通都是有意义的。考察相关历史文化现象，对于全面认识刘贺个人的政治史表现无疑会有帮助，对于真切理解西汉历史演变的进程也应当有积极的作用。与汉文帝刘恒同样，刘贺也是以地方藩王身份入主长安的。由原先封地前往都城的交通实践，二者明显不同。刘贺的生活轨迹覆盖司马迁所划分四个基本经济区中的三个。而与他同时的汉宣帝刘询在襁褓中被收狱，大赦后经历平民生活，由社会最底层上升至最高层，其生活空间接触不同阶层，与刘贺生活空间幅面之广，也形成一纵向一横向的对照。

Liu He(刘贺)experienced an identity transformation from king to emperor, then to commoner, and finally marquis. The change of status also leads to that of location of his residence. Among the political figures of the same rank in the upper echelon of Western and Eastern Han ruling group, the geographical area involved in Liu He's traveling life was second only to that of Liu Bang(刘邦), Emperor Gaozu of Han, and Liu Che(刘彻), Emperor Wu of Han. The trajectory of Liu He's life involves a wide range of regions, which is meaningful not only for his personal political career but also for the cultural and economic communication between different regions of the country. Examining the relevant historical and cultural phenomena will undoubtedly be helpful for a comprehensive understanding of Liu He's personal performance in political history, and should also have a positive effect on a true understanding of the process of historical evolution of the Western Han Dynasty. Like Liu Heng(刘恒), Emperor Wen of Han, Liu He also entered Chang'an(长安)as a local vassal. Only their transportation practices from the original fiefdom to the capital city were markedly different. Liu He's life trajectory covers three of the four basic economic zones delineated by Sima Qian(司马迁). At the same time, Liu Xun(刘询), Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty, was imprisoned as an infant and experienced civilian life after amnesty. He rose from the lowest level to the highest level of society, and he came into contact with different classes, which also formed a vertical and horizontal contrast with Liu He's wide living space.
